Extremely rare blood needed to save 2-year-old South Florida girl

- OneBlood reported on Monday that they are searching worldwide for some of the rarest blood in the world, as it is needed to save a a two-year-old South Florida girl. The other two matching donors are from the United States. The birth parents of the donor must be 100% Pakistani, Indian or Iranian and their blood type has to be type "O" or "A". 'This was the worst thing we were expecting'.

Around 800 children in the USA are diagnosed each year with the disease and most are diagnosed when they are younger than five.

Donors must be exclusively Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent.

"We were all crying.", said Zainab's father Raheel Mughal in a video. Because the antigen is so common, it makes it hard to find blood donors who are lacking it as well, Forbes said. In about 2 out of 3 cases, the cancer has already spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body upon diagnosis. The cancer commonly affects children below the age of five. According to the American Cancer Society, there are about 800 new cases of neuroblastoma diagnosed each year.

In order to meet the said pre-requisites, the blood donation organisation has made a decision to expand its search across the globe with an aim to raise 7-10 donors to donate blood over the period of Zainab's treatment. Here Are Some Other Surprising Facts About Type O Blood Group.

Statistically, donors need to be exclusively of Pakistani, Indian or Iranian descent.

Rocket heads to ISS; booster misses mark
SpaceX CEO and lead designer Elon Musk tweeted that the reusable booster was undamaged and appeared to be transmitting data. Falcon 9 B1050 seen shortly before a grid fin lost control, throwing the rocket into a near-uncontrollable spin.

And even within this population, fewer than 4 percent of people are missing the antigen.

According to her father, none of her relatives who donated are a match, but three donors have been located in the United Kingdom.

Complicating the matter: She has a rare blood type and finding a match for life-saving transfusions is a huge challenge.

OneBlood says it has found three matches so far, one near London and two in the US, but she will need blood transfusions for the foreseeable future, which means more donors must be found.

"My daughter's life very much depends on the blood", Mughal said, describing the plea for help as a "humble request" from his heart.

OneBlood is coordinating compatibility testing and asks that prospective donors specify that they are looking to donate for Zainab, so the blood can be tagged for testing.
