China to 'immediately' implement USA trade truce measures

US President Donald Trump said today negotiations to defuse the high stakes trade conflict with China are "going very well".

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his USA counterpart Donald Trump recently held a meeting at a working dinner in Buenos Aires, reaching important consensus and agreeing not to impose new additional tariffs.

The White House on Monday had to correct a statement by economic adviser Larry Kudlow, who incorrectly told reporters in a conference call that the 90-day negotiating period between the US and China would begin on January 1 instead of December 1.

China and the USA have reached agreement in the sectors of agriculture, autos, and energy, and China will immediately start implementing that consensus, a government spokesman said.

Trade experts have said 90 days is scant time for resolving sprawling conflicts over technology, state industries and other issues that have bedeviled U.S. He added that the talks will also address areas such as intellectual property rights, technology cooperation, market access, and the trade imbalance.

The White House has said China agreed to purchase a "very substantial" amount of agricultural, energy, industrial and other products to reduce the yawning trade gap. "China is supposed to start buying Agricultural product and more immediately".

The United States has levied additional duties of between 10 percent and 25 percent on $250 billion of Chinese goods this year as punishment for what it calls China's unfair trade practices.

Trump tweeted that China "had agreed to reduce and remove tariffs on cars coming into China from the US".

"All of these help to safeguard China's legitimate interests, and are also in the interests of the United States, and even more are in line with the expectations of the worldwide community", he added in a statement carried on the foreign ministry's website.

Trump also warned this week of more tariffs if the two sides could not resolve their differences.
