AWS goes deep and wide with machine learning services and capabilities

Even with all the benefits, most organizations are still slow to embrace the cloud.

Amazon Transcribe is a speech-to-text service automatically creates text transcripts from audio files, which would allow healthcare organizations to created transcripts of patient calls. The cloud environment is built on Amazon SageMaker, a service that was launched previous year and created to make it cheaper for everyday developers to build, train and deploy machine learning "into a production-ready hosted environment". AWS services are trusted by millions of active customers around the world-including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies-to power their infrastructure, make them more agile, and lower costs.

"In addition, Managed Blockchain can replicate an immutable copy of your blockchain network activity into Amazon Quantum Ledger Database (QLDB), a fully managed ledger database". Others may have certain workloads that need to be on-premises, especially latency sensitive workloads. The new offering include configurable compute, racks, storage and will be fully managed.

While No. 2 Microsoft and No. 3 Google are growing well above the market growth rate, Amazon still commands a much greater market share - 34% by Synergy Research Group's estimates.

After the presentation, Jassy reflected the feedback the company had been getting; specifically that many companies simply didn't want (or couldn't afford) the potential upheaval that a move to a 100 percent cloud-based platform would entail. But Amazon made no bones about the issues with current hybrid options and where they see Outposts fitting in the hybrid market (note, it involved heavily repeating the C-word: consistency).

Postponed Copa Libertadores final to be played at Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid
The Bernabeu is open that weekend, as Real Madrid will be playing at Huesca on December 9. Any further action taken by Boca has a deadline to be completed.

The result is AWS Outposts, coming next year, which will bring AWS hardware, just as it is configured in its own data centres, to the customer, where they can lift and shift applications to run within their own data centre, but in a way that runs like an AWS application. Amazon SageMaker can also be used with AWS DeepLens, a deep-learning enabled wireless video camera that pairs an HD camera developer kit with a set of sample projects to help developers learn machine learning concepts.

"Customers want to work on-premises and in the cloud the exact same way", he said. Dubbed VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts, customers will be able to run the entire VMware software-defined data center (SDDC)-including compute, storage and networking infrastructure-on-premises.

Pat Gelsinger, chief executive officer, VMware, who joined Jassy on stage at re:Invent said, "VWware Cloud on AWS broke the barriers between the datacentre and the cloud by combining the best of the private cloud and public cloud in the AWS cloud".

In partnership with VMWare, there are two ways customers can get onboard: VMWare Cloud on AWS and AWS native.

Variant 1: In this the VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts will permit you to continue using the same VMware control plane and APIs for running your infrastructure.
