Trump slaps down journalist for 'stupid' question

Trump on Friday called White House correspondent and CNN political analyst April Ryan a "loser" and "nasty", and hinted that he is considering revoking press credentials of journalists. She subsequently tweeted a manipulated video clip that showed Acosta's arm touching the intern's arm as she tried to take the microphone.

They shouldn't be doctoring videos or pulling a reporter's pass, but maybe it's best to think of this flap as a journalist just doing his job, and a president just being himself.

After Acosta asked about the investigation of Russia's involvement in the 2016 election, Trump tried to turn to Alexander, but Acosta continued to ask questions. "What a stupid question, and I watch you a lot, and you ask a lot of stupid questions". Trump's insults "are nothing new".

CNN's Dana Bash tweeted this reaction: "Harvard University will be surprised to hear POTUS call one of their graduates - my friend and colleague Abby Phillip - stupid".

In response, CNN said "this president's ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far", in a statement. "She gets publicity and then she gets a pay raise". It looks to me like he was trying to fend her off and got a little carried away trying to block her arm in the heat of an already heated moment. Rather, he said he saw him holding on to the microphone as she reached for it. "Surely", he wrote, "we must realize that if it works with CNN, this will just be the first time, and not the last". During the George W. Bush presidency, Trude Feldman, who worked for various news outlets, was suspended for 90 days after security cameras recorded her looking through a press aide's desk late one night. "I've never seen a president do anything like that". The channel said the revocation "was done in retaliation for his [Acosta] challenging questions".

The announcement means other companies can start building the voice assistant system into their own machines and devices as well. She said Royole told her the issues were "due to the adhesive used in the engineering samples".

"What a stupid question that is, what a stupid question".

The National Association of Black Journalists, which also called for Acosta's White House credentials to be reinstated on Thursday, celebrated Ryan, Phillip and Alcindor on Twitter.

The president said he had not decided if Acosta's pass would be reinstated and he suggested there "could be others" who lose their credentials.

"When you're in the White House, this is a very sacred place to be", he said. "This is a very special place", Trump said. "And the way you treat other people is frightful". Its president, Olivier Knox, said in a statement Wednesday night that the group "strongly objects to the Trump Administration's decision to use US Secret Service security credentials as a tool to punish a reporter with whom it has a hard relationship".

Acosta has served as a White House correspondent for CNN since 2013 when he covered the Obama administration.
