Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg hospitalized after fall at court

WASHINGTON-Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the Supreme Court was hospitalized Thursday morning with three broken ribs after falling in her office Wednesday evening, a spokeswoman said.

The court says the 85-year-old justice went to George Washington University Hospital in Washington early on Thursday after experiencing discomfort overnight.

Prior to her appointment, Ms Ginsburg focused her work on women's rights and started the first law journal dedicated to the topic. And she returned to work quickly after undergoing a heart procedure in 2012. She has beaten pancreatic and colon cancer, the two deadliest forms of the disease.

According to a Court spokesperson (via CNN's Manu Raju), Ginsburg has fractured three ribs in the fall.

Should Ginsburg or any of the other three liberal justices step down while President Donald Trump is in office, that crucial advantage at the highest level of the judicial branch of the USA government could grow even larger.

By midmorning, Trump had not publicly commented on Ginsburg's hospitalization.

President Donald Trump has appointed two justices to the court, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, since taking office.

Ginsburg joined the court in 1993. She later apologized for what she said were inappropriate remarks.

"I will retire when it's time", Ginsburg told NPR's Nina Totenberg in 2016.
