Six Florida races slated for recounts

Six Florida races slated for recounts

The paper said statewide races for U.S. Senate and agriculture commissioner are within the machine recount window of half of 1 percent. "We look at the over and under votes, depending upon what type of recount it is, and if there is no difference - if the results are still the same within a certain percentage percent - that person who won wins".

The recount decision would come this weekend after canvassing boards in Florida's 67 counties certify returns.

Final vote tallies in Scott's Senate election and the state's governor's race have not been collected.

Another potentially significant Broward-based mystery is what explains a discrepancy in the number of votes cast in the governor's race and the Senate race.

Legal wrangling began in earnest in Florida on Thursday as top political campaigns girded for the possibility of lengthy and expensive vote recounts, especially in a Senate race that remains too close to call. Both are lawyering up and demanding voter information from county election officials as a major recount battle gets underway in Florida. The Supreme Court, in Bush v. Gore, stopped the recount, leaving George W. Bush with the majority of electoral votes and the presidency.

And now, two days after the election, the race between Gillum and Governor-Elect Ron DeSantis will nearly certainly go to a recount as well. "We believe that at the end of this process that Senator Nelson is going to be declared the victor and is going to return to the United States Senate".

Gillum's campaign said Thursday that he is "ready for any outcome", including a recount.

Nelson's elections lawyer, Marc Elias, a veteran of prominent recounts around the country, told reporters Thursday morning that he expects the gap to narrow and reach the manual-recount threshold.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson speaks during a rally for Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum at CFE Arena on the campus of UCF in Orlando, Fla. on November 3.

The Gillum statement said that since the concession speech "it has become clear there are many more uncounted ballots than was originally reported".

"Every Floridian should be concerned there is rampant fraud in Broward and Palm Beach Counties", Scott said.

The deeply purple state will learn Saturday whether recounts will be held in the bitter, tight U.S. Senate race between Republican Gov. Rick Scott and incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson; and in the governor's race between former Republican U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis and the Democratic mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum.

Scott also spent almost two weeks off the campaign trail to respond to Hurricane Michael, which pummeled several counties in the Florida Panhandle and was responsible for dozens of deaths.

"Every day since the election, the leftwing activists in Broward County have been coming up with more and more ballots out of nowhere", Scott said in his statement".

He said Broward County election officials "have a history of violating the law".

The Republican Party had no immediate response to the developments, but Mr. Scott's campaign said bluntly that Mr. Elias was launching an effort to steal the election.

The Nelson campaign suggested it could have been the result of a faulty ballot scanner or scanners.

"I believe Sen. Nelson will prevail", Elias said.

Scott's campaign manager Jackie Schutz Zeckman shot back: "They aim to disenfranchise law abiding Florida voters by producing ballots out of thin air until they have enough to win".

But Abrams' campaign maintains it just wants all provisional and absentee ballots to be counted before she decides to concede. "The ones that are accepted will all be opened and we'll tabulate those tonight to add to the count".
