Probe Parker approaches the Sun

Over the course of next seven years, the spacecraft will study our star during 24 close flybys, getting close with each encounter.

NASA's solar probe has officially broken 1972 the record set by the Helios 2 spacecraft, to become the closest space probe to approach the Sun.

It happened on October 29, when Parker crossed the mark of 42.48 million kilometers to the Sun.

Parker on Monday surpassed the record of 26.6 million miles (43 million kilometers) set by Helios-2 back in 1976.

The Parker will also beat the world record for the fastest traveling spacecraft relative to the sun. After that, the probe will burn up in the sunlight.

The Parker Solar Probe managed to break the previous record only 78 days after launching.

Helios 2 also set the mark back then for fastest speed relative to the sun, at 153,454 miles per hour (246,960 km/h). Along with this, gaining momentum from the sun's powerful gravity, the probe will accelerate at a top speed of close to 690,000 km/hr. The previous record was set in April 1976 by the Helios 2 spacecraft.

Red Sox return to Fenway Park with World Series trophy
On Sunday, during Game 5 of the World Series, the Red Sox triumphed over the Dodgers , winning 5-1. Five games was all the Boston Red Sox needed to secure another World Series crown.

Parker blasted off on its odyssey atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket in the early hours of August 12, 2018. Parker Solar Probe will start its first solar encounter on October 31. At that time, NASA expects the spacecraft to come within 3.83 million miles of the Sun's surface.

At the same time, the probe has to withstand huge temperatures of up to 1,377 Celsius (2,500 Fahrenheit).

To face the heat of almost 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, the spacecraft is well protected by a special 4.5-inch thick carbon-composite shield. "It's a proud moment for the team, though we remain focused on our first solar encounter, which begins on October 31".

The NASA Parker Solar Probe blasted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, US, this summer.

Presumably, in the next seven years, the satellite must change around the Sun a few orbits.

The primary objective of the Parker Solar Probe is to study the solar wind.
