Imelda Marcos disqualified from holding office after corruption conviction

Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Imelda Marcos said on Friday, November 9, that she will appeal the verdict of the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan which found her guilty of 7 counts of graft.

In finding her guilty of graft in seven of the 10 cases filed against her, Mrs. Marcos faces imprisonment of six years and one month up to 11 years for each count, as provided under the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Marcos can also raise the decision to the Supreme Court if she finds grave abuse of discretion on the part of the Sandiganbayan.

Neither Marcos nor anyone representing her attended Friday's court hearing. She was given 30 days by the anti-graft court to explain her absence.

The station, whose construction will be completed in 2022, will be open to astronauts of all countries. The computer glitch was the latest in a string of technical failures involving Russian space hardware.

As well as being first lady, she was the minister of human settlements from 1976 to 1986 and governor of Manila from 1978 to 1984.

Marcos, who is serving her third straight term as a member of congress, has registered to contest an election to succeed her daughter, Imee Marcos, 62, as governor of Ilocos Norte, the stronghold of the still powerful Marcos family. Most have been elected to public offices in an impressive political comeback.

President Rodrigo Duterte, an ally of the Marcoses, said a year ago the Marcos family had indicated a willingness to return a still-unspecified amount of money and "a few gold bars" to help ease budget deficits. Imelda Marcos in particular was known for her flaunting her opulent lifestyle while the country languished in poverty and civil unrest.

Duterte allowed Marcos' embalmed body to be buried at a special heroes' cemetery in 2016, and the president is often accompanied at official events by Imee Marcos.
