Irving however reacted furiously following Murray's attempt, suggesting the 21-year-old had showed a lack of respect.

Jamal Murray was spectacular on Monday night, pouring in a career-high 48 points, five rebounds and four assists in the Denver Nuggets' 115-107 win over the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics' All-Star point guard was not happy with this shot.

"What kind of competitor wouldn't it bother?" he said.

After Murray, Irving had the best game of anyone in that Celtics-Nuggets game, scoring a season-high 31 points on 13-17 shooting.

"Congratulations to him on his 48 points". Our defense has to be better especially against a player like that in the pick-and-roll. He made us pay in certain instances, making some tough shots and some tough layups.

"The ball deserves to go into the crowd after a bull [expletive] move like that", Irving told reporters.

Jamal Murray simply got caught up in the moment when he hoisted a long shot with the clock winding down.

Murray realized his actions likely crossed the line and issued an apology shortly after the game, claiming that his "emotions took over", and that he didn't mean any disrespect by attempting the shot. I just had it in my mind I was going for 50.

"I really wasn't meaning no disrespect".

The awkward situation with Drew came on top of the team's poor start, All-Star forward Kevin Love undergoing surgery and guard J.R. Smith wanting to be traded.

Nuggets head coach Michael Malone denied Murray had meant to be disrespectful to the Celtics.

"I know him personally".

"That was just a fun game". Murray is averaging 18.9 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 3.4 APG, and 1 SPG. "It was just, my emotions took over and that's how I get sometimes when I get going".

"It's just, you've seen guys throughout the league, I believe there was an incident in IN when Lance Stephenson took a layup at the end where they were playing against Toronto.it's just experiences that everyone has". I wouldn't worry about the Boston Celtics offense.
