Turkish reaction: we won’t allow

"Discussions that took place between him and the persons who met him.at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul led to a brawl and a fistfight with the citizen, Jamal Khashoggi, which led to his death, may his soul rest in peace", the attorney general said in a statement.

The state-run news agency also said King Salman has also ordered the formation of a ministerial committee headed by the crown prince to restructure the kingdom's intelligence services. Saudi TV also confirmed that General Ahmad al-Asiri, deputy director of General Intelligence Directorate, was sacked over the incident.

Hadid said such a cover-up may have been undertaken to preserve Saudi Arabia's worldwide business ties.

On October 2, he went missing after going to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain paperwork for his upcoming marriage.

"The league expressed deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the Saudi journalist and reaffirmed its statement issued on 14 February on the refusal to politicize or exploit this issue by any party, including for the goal of threatening economic sanctions or unilateral measures in any form against Saudi Arabia, which remains a key pillar of security and stability at the regional and worldwide levels", the statement added.

The case has also created a rift between the President Donald Trump's administration and some members of the U.S. Congress, including Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC who has explicitly accused Prince Mohammed of ordering Khashoggi killed.

The White House said it was "saddened" to learn of Khashoggi's fate, but US President Donald Trump said the Saudi explanation of his death was "credible".

The decision to overhaul the intelligence apparatus and sack members of the crown prince's inner circle is created to "distance the crown prince from the murder", said analysis firm Eurasia Group.

And will the USA government believe this explanation of the chain of events, which raises more questions and looks like an attempt to separate the Saudi royals from this crime?

With no permanent departures either, Pochettino began this season with the same squad with which he ended the 2017/18 campaign. The Argentine was determined to only sign the players he had identified as his main targets and not settle for alternatives.

Given the days of indignant denials by the Saudi leadership it's doubtful we would have even got this far without sustained worldwide pressure.

This is only a first step towards publicising the truth of what really happened.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to uncover the truth behind Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's killing, sources close to the Turkish leader have told Middle East Eye, as worldwide outrage over Riyadh's most recent explanation grows.

While it fired officials close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia stopped short of implicating the heir-apparent of the world's largest oil exporter.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the "horrific events" surrounding Khashoggi's killing "still haven't been cleared up and of course we demand that they be cleared up".

Another official said the president is particularly sensitive about the unpleasant optics of the situation given the proximity of the midterm elections, but it remains unclear whether he will take any action.

Trump has said that the consequences for the Saudis "will have to be very severe" if they are found to have killed Khashoggi, but has acknowledged he wants to protect Washington's massive arms sale to the kingdom.

"To say that I am sceptical of the new Saudi narrative about Mr Khashoggi is an understatement", he said.

Shadow global trade secretary Barry Gardiner told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "What we would do certainly at the moment, and I think the Government should do this, is to suspend all arms sales to the kingdom".
