Stigma remains as world celebrates Mental Health Day

Qatar Airways, in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), will host a programme of activities and events throughout the month of October created to raise awareness of good mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, as part of World Mental Health Day on Wednesday 10 October 2018. "But we know that, for example, one in three Canadians with a mental health condition get help, which means two out of three don't".

She said it may take several generations of effort to work on the prejudice and stigma attached to mental illnesses, but it's important to "move towards the right direction". In 2018, $93.4 million was donated to mental health initiatives and 87 per cent of Canadians say they're now more aware of mental health because of the Bell Let's Talk campaign.

"The Government needs to take this hidden condition far more seriously". It impacts you physically and mentally we need to watch out for.

World Mental Health Day is themed this year on young people, and Rachael hopes that by sharing the support networks she managed to access, including group therapy, it will encourage other young mums to speak out and get the help they need.

But at the same time, World Mental Health Day is just that - a day.

In the 2016-2017 National Survey of Children's Health, results of a sample count approximated that in the state of NY, about 54.5 percent of children ages 3 to 17 did not receive mental and behavioral health treatment and counseling that they needed for disorders such as depression, anxiety, and other behavioral or conduct problems. And, if not recognized and managed, these feelings can lead to mental illness.

West also had some clarification about his mental health. "In a short period of time , too, a very short period of time ". West, who collaborates with Adidas on its "Yeezy" line of footwear and apparel, had lunch with Trump in the Oval Office.

According to World Health Organization, half all the mental illnesses begins by age 14 and often goes undetected and untreated.

This is why Health Minister, Dr. Duane Sands yesterday stressed the importance of raising the issue of mental health in conversations.

Research on ACEs tells us that exposure to adverse childhood experiences produces a diverse range of adverse effects on both physical and mental health, as well as emotional and behavioural development, in adults many years later.

"The time has come for us all, collectively, to tackle the causes and symptoms of mental illness, and provide care for those who suffer from it", says Gaga. This year's World Mental Health day, which is today, focuses on the 40% of the global population who are between 10 and 24 years old. Often when we have patients and we ask how long they have been using the (illegal) substance, parents are surprised.

This makes mental illness one of the most prevalent illnesses known to man.

"Even when treatment is sought, its quality is poor - the World Mental Health Surveys reported that one in five people with depressive disorder received minimally adequate treatment in high-income countries, dropping to just one in 27 in LMICs (low and middle income countries)", the report said.
