Missing journalist's fiancée 'in a state of deep confusion and sadness'

Missing journalist's fiancée 'in a state of deep confusion and sadness'

Saudi Arabia may have agreed to the search in order to reassure its Western allies and the worldwide community.

Crown Prince Salman said last week that Riyadh was "ready to welcome the Turkish government to go and search our premises", because it had "nothing to hide" about the missing journalist.

The agreement reached with the USA over Manbij province in northern Syria has not completely ended, however, it is moving slower than expected, Erdoğan said, regarding the deal reached with Washington for the withdrawal of the People's Protection Units (YPG), the PKK terrorist organization's Syria affiliate.

The revelation comes amid a claim that the Saudi team that flew to Turkey brought with it a bone saw to dismember Khashoggi.

President Trump demanded a personal explanation from the Saudi government for the disappearance of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi amid signs that the United States believes Turkish accounts that he may have been murdered. "We are demanding everything". The Turkish government has claimed that Khashoggi was killed in the consulate, on the orders of the Saudi government.

Trump on Tuesday said he was "very concerned about it". "Silence, denials and delays are not acceptable".

Analysts said there were reasons for skepticism about the Turkish account.

In government-aligned newspapers and on social media, many Saudis have advanced a narrative that the accusations are part of an insidious campaign to smear their country - pointing fingers at Turkey, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group that Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies consider a terrorist organisation.

The Senate "barely" approved the last round of arms sales, Corker said he told Prince Khalid bin Salman.

Saudi Arabia has called the charge that it killed or kidnapped Khashoggi "baseless", but has provided no evidence that he left the consulate.

Khashoggi is a columnist for The Washington Post who had been living in self-imposed exile in the United States.

Heather Nauert, a spokesperson for the US State Department, said on Tuesday that Trump plans to speak to the Saudis - whose crown prince, Mohammed Bin Salman Trump, is thought to be close to - about what happened.

She called on Trump to "help shed light" on the journalist's disappearance.

Khashoggi had written a series of columns for the Washington Post that were critical of Saudi Arabia's assertive Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has led a widely publicized drive to reform the Sunni monarchy but has also presided over the arrests of activists and businessmen.

The Trump administration, from the president on down, is heavily invested in the Saudi relationship. Robin Wright, a scholar at the Wilson Center think tank and close friend of the missing writer, said that's unlikely to change.

The two sides have cooperated on challenging Iran, on supporting Israel and on the war against the Houthis.
