Jamal Khashoggi's Fiancée Pens Obituary-Style Op-Ed For Missing Saudi Writer

On Saturday, the US President pledged to impose "severe punishment" on Saudi Arabia if it turns out that Riyadh is behind the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi who has been missing since October 2.

"The Kingdom also affirms that if it receives any action, it will respond with greater action, and that the Kingdom's economy has an influential and vital role in the global economy and that the Kingdom's economy is affected only by the impact of the global economy", the statement said.

Turkish officials say the journalist was killed and dismembered inside the consulate by a 15-member Saudi "assassination squad" and say they have evidence to support their claims. The kingdom says the allegations are "baseless", but has offered no evidence Khashoggi ever left the consulate.

On Sunday, Saudis stock exchange dropped by as much as 7% at one point before recovering some losses.

This news has coincided with a massive WWE event that is set to take place on 2 November in Saudi Arabia.

Trump said that he had invited Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, to visit him at the White House and that his staff was working out arrangements with her. Khashoggi was living in self-imposed exile in the United States and had criticized Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in columns written for The Washington Post.

I read the Saudi statement in response to the American proposals regarding sanctions on Saudi Arabia.

"I will be also calling King Salman of Saudi Arabia, because I think it's appropriate for me to ask him what is going on", he said.

The US, where Khashoggi lived and worked in recent years, is also keen on solving his disappearance.

Asked Friday if it was a mistake for Kushner to develop such close relationships with the Saudis, the president said no, and the United States has close relationships with many countries - but this is a serious problem.

He had great years with the Bulls, highlighted by being voted Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-NBA in 2014. The Knicks had hoped to trade him but no deal materialized, so they put the centre on waivers Saturday.

"There's something really bad and disgusting about that, if that was the case, so we're going to have to see", Trump said.

Britain, France and Germany told Saudi Arabia they were treating the case with "the utmost seriousness".

The BBC said a joint statement of condemnation was also being discussed by USA and European diplomats if it is confirmed Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents.

Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited self-exiled former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, who is now living in the United Kingdom after being granted political asylum there, to Saudi Arabia.

In protest of Khashoggi's disappearance, several US businesses leaders have pulled out of next week's Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, dubbed "Davos in the Desert", after the annual meeting of world economic interests in Switzerland.

There was already mounting concern over civilian deaths caused by a Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen and some lawmakers have said Washington should block military sales to Riyadh if the allegations over Khashoggi are proven.

Speaking with reporters at the White House later, Trump reiterated that there would be "very powerful" repercussions for Saudi Arabia should the USA determine that the kingdom is responsible for the death of Khashoggi, who wrote for the Post's Global Opinions section.

"Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them", Trump said at the time.

International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde said Saturday she was "horrified" by reports about the fate of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi but still plans to attend an economic meeting in Riyadh this month. Those policies are all seen as initiatives of the crown prince.
