Change that embarrassing PlayStation account name starting next year

To be honest, though, this sounds like it's been a complex feature for Sony to implement. The PSN Online ID Change feature beta will be a part of the PlayStation Preview Program, and will become available to select users that have pre-registered as testers for previous PS4 system software betas. Subsequent name changes will cost money, with it being $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members and $9.99 for everyone else.

Following on from the strong rumours last week, PlayStation Blog have confirmed that PSN Name changes are finally headed to the network with the functionality being tested in the Preview program. That small cost is meant to discourage scammers and griefers from constantly changing their account name for the purposes of harassment. Are you excited to be able to change that (admit it) slightly embarrassing gamer tag? The Nintendo Switch doesn't let you change your base Nintendo Account username, but it does make it easy (and free) to change the "nickname" that appears to other players online. PSN users will also have the option to show their old ID alongside the new one, to make the transition more visible to online friends.

Not all games will actually support the feature, but PlayStation says "a large majority of the most-played PS4 games" will, as well as any game "originally published after April 1, 2018". If there is any issue after changing your ID, it can be reverted free of charge.

Microsoft looks to take Xbox experience onto mobile
Microsoft has also started installing Xbox One hardware in its Azure data centers that spans 54 regions and cover 140 countries. The Xbox One console is a great device where you can play lots of awesome games such as Halo 5, Forza Horizon 4 and more.

That being said, when the feature officially launches, Sony will provide a full list of compatible games so you can plan ahead and weigh your options.

Another caveat is that the new feature won't be compatible with all games.

November 2018 is the planned date for the preview program with a full roll out in "early 2019".
