Lawyer: Ford can testify next week if terms fair

Susan Collins, R-Maine, said on Wednesday that she thinks the committee must look into the allegations by Christine Blasey Ford, who says Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her three decades ago.

Blasey Ford's lawyers have told the committee she can not appear at its hearing scheduled for Monday, calling the date Republicans set "arbitrary", according to The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Christine Ford has been in the eye of a Washington maelstrom since identifying herself last Sunday, with Republicans demanding her Capitol Hill testimony and Democrats rallying to defend her. A Republican aide didn't dispute the figure, but said those updates can be relatively minor, such as adding a nominee's tax records or educational information that had been inadvertently excluded.

Ford said that Kavanaugh and his male friend, who were reportedly drunk, laughed.

Other requests include Ford and Kavanaugh never being in the same room and Kavanaugh testifying first.

Prof Ford has accused Judge Kavanaugh of drunkenly pinning her to a bed and trying to remove her clothing at a house party in a Washington DC suburb when they were both teenagers 36 years ago.

His approval by the Judiciary Committee and the Republican-majority Senateappeared to be an nearly certainty until The Washington Post published its interview with Ford, who is now a California psychology professor.

Taylor Foy, spokesman for Republicans on the panel, said that Grassley "will consult with his colleagues on the committee". Judge also said he never saw Kavanaugh "act in the manner Dr Ford describes".

Trump tweeted: "I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents".

Sen. McConnell predicted that the Senate will soon confirm President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee on Friday despite the accusations laid against Kavanaugh.

"She wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety", Katz wrote in an email. Judge has told the committee he does not recall the incident and does not want to speak publicly.

The NBA's Top Pick Has Been Traded
Others think that he’ll continue to use the picks himself and construct a young core that can emerge after the Cavaliers vs. Fultz is an ideal scoring guard to run alongside him, and can also take over point guard duties if the Simmons experiment fails.

Meanwhile, here's the latest on the negotiations and Democrat participation.

Ford spoke to no one of her experience until 2012 when she and her husband discussed it in therapy.

Kavanaugh, meanwhile, has said he is ready to appear on Monday (Tuesday NZT). "I realize that does not undo the mistake", he wrote. And I just want to say to the men in this country: "just shut up and step up, do the right thing for a change", she said at the news conference.

"Senate Republicans are attempting to make Dr. Blasey Ford testify on just a few days' notice - without having the Federal Bureau of Investigation follow up on her allegations and provide a report first", said the letter, which was spearheaded by Sens. He offered to send committee aides to her California home to take testimony.

As the week has proceeded, Republicans have seemed to regain momentum toward approving Kavanaugh though his prospects have remained uncertain. Vice President Mike Pence would break a tie.

Ford, now 51, delivered the information in a letter to Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Sen. "A hearing on Monday is not possible and the committee's insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event". Despite Republican claims that investigations into these matters are the sole responsibility of the Senate, the FBI could open a more extensive investigation.

It's unclear how Republicans feel about the list of demands.

Trump's tweet could affect GOP support among women going into the midterm elections.

Hirono, one of just four women serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee - the panel overseeing Kavanaugh's confirmation - first brought up topic of sexual misconduct during Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing earlier this month.

Other groups involved in Kavanaugh's confirmation effort have also distanced themselves from Whelan's tweets.

Republicans, in turn, are accusing Democrats of attempting to force a delay until after the November midterms, where Democrats are hoping to take control of the Senate.
