Hotel told to fix Legionella bacteria problem, notify guests

The Fraser Health Authority has confirmed a "cluster" of cases of Legionnaires' disease in the Guildford area of Surrey.

Legionnaires' is a type of bacterial pneumonia that is contracted by breathing in small droplets of water in the air which contain the Legionella bacteria.

The bacteria is commonly found in freshwater, groundwater and soil. Most people get better with early treatment, although they may need to be hospitalized.

It says public health officials are now trying to track down the source of the bacteria.

In August 2015, 12 people died after contracting the bacteria in NY. All 14 likely acquired Legionella at the end of July or beginning of August in a localized area of Hampton. Test results are still pending for environmental samples taken from other locations in the affected area.

Bagley said this particular bacterial infection can not be passed from person-to-person.

Kavanaugh supreme court nomination not 'normal', says Senate Democrat
Klobuchar was the only senator to make such a request, he said - and those documents were released Friday. What are they trying so desperately to hide?' Republicans said Democrats are reaching for objections.

The history surrounding Legionnaires' is well known, which might explain why many fear even the mention of the disease.

"We are working hard to identify the exact source of these infections", New Hampshire Division of Public Health Services Director Lisa Morris said.

The hot tubs no longer present a potential risk to the public and both hotels remain open.

Symptoms can include cough, fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, said Fraser Health Medical Health Officer Dr. Aamir Bharmal. Symptoms will usually begin within 2 to 10 days after exposure to the bacteria.

Anyone who's at a higher risk and develops pneumonia-like symptoms should see a doctor.

Resident can still use and drink their water, but those with a higher risk of getting the disease are advised to take extra steps.
