Celtics’ Jabari Bird taking a break after violence charges

Bird was held on $50,000 bail at his arraignment Thursday on domestic violence-related charges.

UPDATE (1:30 p.m. ET): Bird has been accused of felony charges of kidnapping, strangulation, domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a risky weapon, according to The Athletic's Jared Weiss, who posted photos of the criminal complaint brought against Bird on Twitter.

Bird, in a statement to The Athletic's Shams Charania, said he's stepping away from the Celtics "indefinitely" as he deals with his legal and medical issues.

Before being drafted by the Celtics, Bird played for the Cal Golden Bears and was a McDonald's All-American while playing for Salesian High School in Richmond. "I do not condone violence against women", Bird added.

"Bird allegedly dragged the victim by the ankles away from a door when she tried to leave". "I am hopeful that in due time and process, I will be able to regain everyone's trust".

The Milwaukee officer involved in the stun gun arrest of Bucks' player Sterling Brown has been fired because of social media posts mocking the incident, the city's police chief said Thursday.

Bird's lawyer, former federal prosecutor Brian Kelly, said his client "understands the seriousness of the allegations" but that there are two sides to the story.

However, former defender Higginbotham seems to think that the game will suit Liverpool FC more than it does Spurs. We could have scored more, we controlled the game. "It was our best game of the season for sure".

"Most importantly, our thoughts are with the victim of this incident", the statement reads.

According to Boston Celtics beat reporter Tom Westerholm, Bird's release will be pending conditions, including no drugs or alcohol, no weapons, and court-ordered supervision.

According to CBS Boston, Bird violently attacked his girlfriend in her apartment over the course of several hours.

The police report states the woman eventually took refuge in a bathroom, and when she came out, Bird was displaying "seizure-like symptoms".

The Celtics said in their statement that, per the NBA's policy on domestic violence, "matters of this kind" are handled by the league. An evaluation at St. Elizabeth's Hospital reportedly delayed his arraignment originally scheduled for Monday.

The Celtics have acknowledged they know of Bird's arrest, but have declined further comment since the weekend.

Boston selected Bird with the 58th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
