'No amount of booze is safe'

'No amount of booze is safe'

The authors called it "the most comprehensive estimate of the global burden of alcohol use to date".

"We go by the scale for men, no more than three drinks per day and for woman no more than two drinks", Beaufort County Health Department Human Services Planner Janell Lewis said.

There is no safe level of drinking, according to a study which found that almost three million deaths globally in 2016 were attributed to alcohol consumption.

"The widely held view of the health benefits of alcohol needs revising, particularly as improved methods and analyses continue to shed light on how much alcohol contributes to global death and disability".

The report said about 1 in 3 people consume alcohol, which is about 2.4 billion people globally. We know that alcohol abuse is a problem, but moderate drinking has been permitted by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and other health standards that acknowledge that one or two drinks a day is not bad for you and can even confer some health benefits. "In particular, the strong association between alcohol consumption and the risk of cancer, injuries, and infectious diseases offset the protective effects for ischemic heart disease in women in our study".

The lead author of the study Dr Max Griswold, at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), University of Washington, said: "Previous studies have found a protective effect of alcohol on some conditions, but we found that the combined health risks associated with alcohol increases with any amount of alcohol".

But an extra four people would be affected if they drank one alcoholic drink a day.

Trump repeatedly refuses to comment on John McCain's legacy
The service at the National Cathedral in Washington will feature eulogies by former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. McCain was a frequent Trump critic and his family has said he did not want the president to attend his funeral.

Alcohol use is a leading risk factor for global disease burden and causes substantial health loss.

But not so fast, said the authors of the new study.

"Although the health risks associated with alcohol start off being small with one drink a day, they then rise rapidly as people drink more". "Some studies also overlook illicit trade and home brewing", CBS News reported. Two drinks bumped that number to 7%.

For people over the age of 50, cancers were the leading cause of alcohol-related deaths, and for those ages 15 to 49, tuberculosis, self-harm and road injuries were the top causes of alcohol-related deaths, the study showed. "Our results show that the safest level of drinking is none".

Governments should act to discourage drinking, they recommended. The country also has a large number of heavy drinkers, who consume more than 75ml per day or nearly every day of the week.

Chris noted that it is patently untrue to claim there are no health benefits from moderate alcohol consumption and the suggestion that there is 'no safe level of alcohol' is scaremongering.
