Maurizio Sarri anticipates early season 'problems' before Chelsea reach full potential

Italy worldwide Jorginho passed home a fearless penalty in the 45th minute as Maurizio Sarri earned his first competitive win at the helm after his team went down to Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend, while fellow debutant and the world's most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga started with a clean sheet.

Chelsea took the lead through N'Golo Kante.

Huddersfield were a persistent threat from crosses into the box and they went close to an equaliser when Steve Mounie headed Mathias Jorgensen's flick-on against the inside of the upright.

"So when you haven't got that expectation on you I think it's good because it happened in Antonio's first season when Chelsea had slumped down the league and didn't too well".

The first goal of the Sarri era came after 33 minutes from the unexpected source of Kante, who scored for the first time in 11 months with his third league goal for the club.

Undisturbed by the pressure and jeering of the Huddersfield fans, Jorginho calmly dispatched his penalty with a skip before striking the ball - a technique some at Chelsea will have already seen in their pre-season shootouts.

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool will go again after Champions League final loss
I think they had a very successful season, a good season, last time, but we didn't win a trophy". We are the ones who have to do more, to fight more, to do all these things.

Kepa had just one save to make in the game but was quick off his line to snuff out danger, and also showcased his aerial ability to claim high balls pumped into the penalty area during the 3-0 win.

The Italian has been tasked with returning Chelsea to among the league's title contenders and he strengthened well during the summer, bringing in Jorginho, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mateo Kovacic and Rob Green. Jorginho stepped up and cooly found the back of the net.

"A disappointing result, not a disappointing performance, especially the first half", the Terriers boss said.

"We were in trouble for 15 minutes against a physical team, we are not a physical team".

Forming part of a three-man central defence which switched to five when Chelsea were attacking, Kongolo helped keep Alvaro Morata, Pedro and Willian quiet.

Unfortunately for Huddersfield and Kongolo, Chelsea managed to score twice before half-time which stretched the defence. But, the youngster is surprisingly, not even in the matchday squad.
