England v India: second Test, day two

It was ironical that players were racing off the ground a ball earlier as it started drizzling only to be called back by the umpires.

For much of the day, thanks again to the weather, it looked as though the fans were going to be restricted to just over eight overs of cricket but then the weather cleared in the evening and India must have wished the rain had stuck around.

According to the images of the team-sheet circulating on social media, England are set to replace Ben Stokes with Chris Woakes as the Rajasthan Royals all-rounder misses out due to his ongoing affray trail.

MORNING SESSION - England 89-4 (India 107): It was a good morning for India as they took four England wickets to get them back into the second Test at Lord's.

Chris Woakes continued a superb return to England duty with a maiden Test century against India at Lord´s on Saturday as the home side took a firm grip on the match.

Woakes joined Bairstow and, while Shami and Sharma were getting the ball to reverse swing and there was some uneven bounce, the England pair negotiated their way through the tricky spells before beginning to accelerate and bringing up their 100 partnership in the first over of the evening session.

England lose four in eventful morning session
Rahane, who did all the hard work to survive 44 deliveries, nicked Anderson's straight delivery to first slip Alastair Cook. England decided on the second morning to select him over off-spinner Moeen Ali, with Ben Stokes on trial for affray.

On Friday, during the rain-affected day two of the second Test, Arjun, who is now in London for a training session with MCC Young Cricketers, helped out the grand staff at Lord's. Off the very next ball, Pujara got run-out and play was halted immediately after that.

Even Kohli failed to make an impact, scoring just 23 runs.

After an assured start Keaton Jennings was the first to depart, LBW to Mohammed Shami (two for 27) for 11.

With the sun shining it looked like flawless batting conditions, but the rare rainfall of the previous two days in London still gave the India attack hope they could bowl their side back into he match. As so often happens they did not have to wait long fir the second wicket, Alastair Cook caught behind for 21 off Ishant Sharma (one for 26) to leave England on 32 for two. However, the other batsmen offered little to no resistance and James Anderson ended up with figures of 5/20.

Pope's wicket left the hosts on 77 for three, with two experience batsmen at the crease in Root and Jonny Bairstow.

Thereafter, wickets began to fall in heaps with Hardik Pandya (10) falling to Woakes before left-armer Sam Curran took Dinesh Karthik's (1) stumps for a ride.
