Blood pressure medication recalled over labeling error

Blood pressure medication recalled over labeling error

This recall is separate from a different blood pressure prescription recall that found a known carcinogen was in the medication.

The FDA published a voluntary recall for hypertension medication Hydrochlorothiazide, made by Accord Healthcare.

A 100-count bottle of Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets USP 12.5 mg has been mislabeled and contains another medication.

The company says it does not believe any other lots are involved in the mix-up.

The tablets are supposed to be light orange or peach in color and round.

Trump Unblocks Twitter Critics After Court Ruling
Reuters reported that, as of August 28, at least 20 of the blocked users said on Twitter they had been unblocked by Trump . In the immediate aftermath of the ruling, Trump unblocked the seven users who filed the initial lawsuit against him.

Patients whose pills do not match that description should return them to the pharmacy or doctor who issued them, the FDA said.

The effects of mixing up the medications - both help bodies get rid of extra salt and water - depend on the individual but can range from "limited" to "life-threatening", FDA officials said.

Spironolactone tablets are used to manage primary hyperaldosteronism, edematous conditions for patients with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver accompanied by edema and/or ascites, nephrotic syndrome, essential hypertension, hypokalemia, severe heart failure.

Spironolactone can be used to treat heart problems, high blood pressure, low potassium levels and fluid retention for some maladies, according to emedicinehealth.com. Spironolactone can also be used to treat high blood pressure, but the FDA warns that use of spironolactone tablets instead of hydrochlorothiazide tablets poses the risk of contracting hyperkalemia, an increase in potassium levels that be life-threatening to certain individuals.

Another day, another drug recall from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to a potentially deadly mixup. Consumers that have the product should return the product to the pharmacy.
