Ben Chilwell: 'Harry Maguire will not leave in January'

Manchester United are lining up a late £65m bid to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City before Thursday's transfer deadline, according to reports in the British media.

Harry Maguire impressed Ben Chilwell in Leicester's Premier League opener (AP).

'I am a football manager and I want to keep our best players for the squad and for our season.

"It's a good feeling, it was the first time last season I came to a club in the middle of the season without preparation or pre-season friendly games to prepare something", he added.

"I'm confident he's going to Manchester United, but only for a couple of hours with us", Puel joked with reporters.

"We will see what happens in his future but I am happy to keep Harry with us and I'm happy with his attitude in general".

With just four days of training behind them Puel has hinted that neither are expected to play at Old Trafford but with the two being so important to his side it is being rumoured that the Frenchman could spring a surprise and play them.

Press Association Sport understands United were keen to make a big-money move for Maguire but Leicester's steadfast refusal to part with another key asset meant no deal came to fruition.

"For us it is not possible".

Earlier today, young Croatian defender Filip Benkovic became the sixth new arrival at the King Power Stadium after Jonny Evans, Ricardo Pereira, James Maddison, Rachid Ghezzal and Danny Ward.

The moves for Soyuncu, 22, and Benkovic, 21, are clearly created to consolidate the future for Leicester at centre back, with Robert Huth leaving this summer and both Wes Morgan and new signing Jonny Evans being over 30 years old.

"It is very good to have Harry back", Leicester left-back Chilwell told reporters after he and Maguire played in Leicester's 2-1 Premier League defeat at Old Trafford on Friday.
