Zsa Zsa, the world's ugliest dog, has died

The beloved English bulldog, known for her iconic look featuring pink toenails and a lolling side-swept tongue, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Tuesday morning. Her hanging tongue and crooked teeth are the product of a pronounced underbite - Brainard told Today that small children often gave Zsa Zsa's tongue a handshake.

The dog mom said she named Zsa Zsa after the Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, as the pup enjoyed lounging on the couch "like a handsome model". Brainard said Zsa Zsa's death was "devastating" and that she and her family were still processing her passing, according to the Today show.

Brainard, who lives in Anoka, told TODAY that she held a small farewell ceremony for Zsa Zsa with her husband and their 15-month-old daughter, Mareslie.

The dog spent her final weeks travelling and making television appearances.

Zsa Zsa was named the victor of the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area in June.

After her big win, Zsa Zsa's family said, "We are so excited for her, she deserves this". Zsa Zsa's fans even wore shirts with her face on them.

After her win, she was awarded $1,500 and flown to NY first class.
