Vettel hits back over Hamilton's accusation of underhand Ferrari tactics

After laboring with neck pain Saturday, Sebastian Vettel found the ideal tonic 24 hours later - matching Alain Prost's total of 51 Grand Prix victories and denying his main rival a record-setting win in his home race.

While Mercedes came under fire for their strategic error that cost Hamilton the lead of the Austrian Grand Prix a week ago, Wolff believes they made the right call on Sunday in staying out to gain track position rather than pitting under the Safety Car.

But Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene offered a scathing assessment of the Mercedes reaction.

Vettel had been hindered by neck pain in the last practice, and wasn't sure if he'd be able to compete in Saturday's qualifying session.

"I pushed absolutely 100, 1000 per cent", he added. It doesn't matter. It held up.

Before the safety cars, and after the collision between Hamilton and Raikkonen, Vettel had looked set for an easy win, controlling the race after taking the lead at the start.

Vettel and Raikkonen pitted but Mercedes kept their drivers out, assuring Hamilton that he was "the fastest guy by miles" with everything to play for on tyres that would last the distance.

Hamilton started aggressively, causing his wheels to spin and allowing Vettel and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas to streak ahead.

While some take the Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff line that yesterday's defeat at Silverstone was the result of "tactics" which involve Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen deliberately targeting the Silver Arrows, others are of the belief that had the Briton made a better start he would not have fallen "victim" to The Iceman, and that at the same time, just one week after the strategic disaster that was Austria, the German team got it wrong again.

Trump said he hopes the meeting with Putin can bring progress for both the United States and Russian Federation . USA intelligence agencies have said Moscow was aiming to help the Trump campaign and harm Clinton's bid.

"Interesting tactics from their side", Hamilton said on the podium.

"You would say the opposite is Monaco and in Monaco we were pretty quick and not far off pole".

The incident propelled Hamilton's contest with Vettel into the next dimension.

Raikkonen accepted fault for the collision after the race and said his penalty was deserved.

"Car 44 (Hamilton) clearly left significant room on the inside of Turn Three", the ruling read. "That is how it goes sometimes".

Vettel was left stuck between the two Mercedes drivers as Bottas took the lead. "Who's he to judge what a driver is doing in the auto, I can accept it from Jacques [Villeneuve, Sky Italia pundit] because he's been a driver, but that person? No". Don't give up, mate.

"It was very, very hard with our tires, fighting against people with brand-new tires for sure. He spun, my bad", said the 2007 world champion.

A second safety vehicle immediately after the restart from the first, caused by Carlos Sainz's Renault and Haas' Romain Grosjean colliding while trying to go side by side through the 180mph Copse corner, played into Mercedes' hands by reducing the wear on their tyres.
