Trump Confident Kim Will 'Honor' Their Contract, Handshake On Denuclearization

President Donald Trump has said he is confident North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "will honour the contract we signed & even more importantly, our handshake" over denuclearisation.

"Look, people are going to make stray comments after meetings", Pompeo said. "The road ahead will be hard and challenging and we know that critics will try to minimize the work that we've achieved".

For the first year of his presidency, while he drummed up support from Beijing for several rounds of increasingly harsh sanctions on North Korea, Trump remained subdued in his challenges to China on trade.

Pompeo said that while he saw progress in Pyongyang, the United States was not relaxing the current sanctions regime or changing its "ironclad" commitment to defend allies South Korea and Japan. He added that his two days of talks with senior North Korean officials had "made progress" and included a "detailed and substantive discussion about the next steps towards a fully verified and complete denuclearization".

After discussions in Pyongyang, North Korea's foreign ministry said that the USA was making unilateral demands aimed at forcing it into giving up its nuclear arsenal.

The Global Times got behind North Korea, with the obligatory disclaimer that China is all in favor of denuclearization but has less control over North Korean behavior than the United States believes.

But no details were announced on how or when the reclusive state would dismantle its nuclear program.

According to the source, the lecturer said South Korean society is polarized between rich and poor and South Koreans are "dominated by money".

"Most of the time you don't come back with anything". They buy $100 billion from us.

In Tokyo on Sunday, Pompeo rejected the suggestion the two sides were far apart, describing North Korean officials as more receptive to USA demands behind closed doors.

Donald Trump nominates Brett Kavanaugh to US Supreme Court position
If the party sticks together, the president's choice will be sitting on the Supreme Court when its new term starts in October. All three were invited to the White House ceremony announcing Kavanaugh's nomination - and all three turned the offer down.

Despite the expectations, the remains were not returned and Pompeo was not granted a meeting with Kim. "We gotta give Pompeo that flexibility to continue these efforts, to push hard and see where we end up", he said.

"It's certainly a setback and a change of heart and a very different picture coming from the North Korean side".

In contrast, the North Korean spokesman said "phased, simultaneous actions" are "the quickest way of realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

"We still cherish our good faith in President Trump".

"But a rushed summit and demands that NK denuclearize in short order or else is not a serious test of diplomacy", Haass tweeted.

The countries did agree this weekend to set up a working group to iron out further disagreements and to meet Thursday to discuss recovering the remains of U.S. military personnel killed during the Korean War.

One mistake Richardson said the US made in its negotiations with Pyongyang was "going first" and announcing the termination of some military exercises with South Korea.

Pompeo said the two sides agreed to hold discussions on July 12 on the repatriation of remains of Americans killed in the 1950-53 Korean War, and also discussed "modalities" for the destruction of a missile engine testing facility.

According to the State Department, the working group includes Alex Wong, deputy assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific affairs, Ben Purser, deputy assistant secretary for worldwide security and nonproliferation, and assists Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, who has led the working-level talks with North Korea.
