Salmonella linked to Honey Smacks cereal sickens 100 in 33 states

USA health officials have issued a stark warning against eating Honey Smacks, the popular Kellogg's breakfast cereal, after it was linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 100 people in 33 states across the country in the past month.

The CDC now advises that anyone who has purchased the cereal return it for a refund or throw it out completely regardless of an expiration date. "Retailers can not legally offer the cereal for sale and consumers should not purchase Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal".

The agency is urging consumers to avoid Honey Smacks, a sugary puffed wheat cereal which has been the subject of a recall by the company since mid-June.

More than a million packets of the product were recalled by the manufacturer Kellogg's in June after 100 people were infected in 33 states. About 1.2 percent of people infected get severe diarrhea that leads to hospitalization. No deaths have been reported in the latest outbreak.

The customs union is one of the cornerstones of the EU and it allows for the tariff-free movement of goods among member states. The president opened the day by reviewing a private military exercise alongside May at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

The agency has said that it has found salmonella stains in unopened and leftover samples of Honey Smacks. About 450 people die in the United States each year from salmonella.

Two states were also added to the outbreak list - Florida and Colorado.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal is still being offered for sale despite being recalled in June.

If you store cereal that looks like Kellogg's Honey Smacks in a container without the packaging and don't remember the brand or type, throw it away.
