Microsoft launches cheaper ‘Surface Go’ iPad competitor with a 10-inch display

Considering the physical form of the Surface Go first, it is headlined as being the smallest and lightest Surface yet. Microsoft has added a USB-C 3.1 port, capable of charging the tablet or outputting video and data to external devices.

MICROSOFT HAS UNVEILED the Surface Go, a 10in Windows devices that marks the company's return to the "cheap" tablet market.

Available in 4GB RAM / 64GB storage, 8/128, 8/128 LTE and 8/256 LTE SKUs, but I don't think all of them will come out in one go.

It's been three years since Microsoft released the Surface 3.

Under the hood, the Surface is powered by a 7th-Generation Intel Pentium Gold processor.

The tablet runs on Windows 10 Home (S) which means it is only capable of installing and running apps from the Windows store.

How much does the Surface Go cost? The tablet also has its own version of the detachable keyboard from the Surface Pro, and the built-in kickstand that supports up to 165-degrees of angle. An extra $50 upgrades to Windows 10 Pro, and an extra $150 upgrades to 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD. If you take a look at the keyboard, Microsoft has included a trackpad large enough to hold an Olympic-sized swimming pool with full support for gestures as well. Microsoft's custom Surface Connector is still there, which essentially allows users to connect to a desktop dock of the device, along with charging the hybrid computer.

2nd rescue underway at flooded Thai cave
Rescue mission chief Narongsak Osottanakorn said it had resumed, with divers re-entering the cave at 11am local time (4pm NZT). Rescuers made a decision to go ahead with the operation to free them because of fears that waters would rise again.

Surface Go sounds great, but depending on what you're looking for, the devil is definitely in the details.

That same tweet hints that Microsoft is making the announcement on Tuesday; it shows a picture of four Surface products, all of which display tomorrow's date and the time "6:00". The Surface Go will be pitted against Apple's $329 iPad. The Surface Go has been officially launched with a £379 price tag and Windows 10 S.

One thing that wasn't true about the leaks is that the base model does not come with a Pentium Silver processor, or a Pentium Gold 4410Y for that matter.

Bloomberg News reported on Microsoft's new tablet line in May. Consumers will receive the device with Windows 10 Home in S mode, while commercial customers will have the option for Windows 10 Pro.

Microsoft officials said learnings from the company's Surface 3 device were inspirational in devising the Surface Go. Here's everything you need to know about the new product, which really seems to be taking aim at the iPad. You have to buy a Surface Go Type Cover (black) for $99 or a Signature Type Cover with Alcantara (Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, or Platinum) for $129.

After all, there are other Windows-based iPad competitors out there from various PC partners.

If you're in Japan, you can order it starting on July 11, in Singapore and Korea on August 2, and in China on August 8.
