Alisson will fly to England on Wednesday night to move the deal into its final stages, having spoken to Jurgen Klopp on Tuesday to discuss a deal.

Liverpool appear to have finally sorted out their biggest issue by agreeing terms with Roma over their goalkeeper Alisson.

The Belgian global now looks set to join Real Madrid, leaving the Blues in desperate search of a top class replacement. As with all modern transfers much discussion between Liverpool and his agents have already taken place so the transfer could move very quickly from here.

That will be music to the ears of Chelsea, says the Daily Mirror, which claims the Blues are poised to "gazump" Liverpool by offering Roma £70m for Alisson.

Liverpool signed Mohamed Salah from Roma last season but despite the good relationship the clubs enjoy the Italian club would not hesitate to sell Alisson to any other club that matches their valuation.

He transferred from Benfica to Manchester City for 35 million pounds last summer and helped them win the Premier League title in his first season with the club.

BBC Sport says that Klopp has been forced to make his move after Loris Karius - still struggling to recover from his Champions League final nightmare - produced another cack-handed display, this time in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere last week. This will nearly double the £34.7m Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson a year ago, a fee which became a world record for a goalkeeper at the time.
