Trump tariffs could sink Canada's auto industry

Trump tariffs could sink Canada's auto industry

Donald Trump's trade adviser is apologizing for saying there's a "special place in hell" for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau because of his "bad-faith diplomacy" during the G7 summit in Quebec.

"My job was to send a signal of strength", he said at a Wall Street Journal CFO Network conference in Washington on Tuesday.

"I find it hard to try to apologize for words that come from the mouths of people in our government, so I don't even try", she said.

The United States has alienated Canada and other allies by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, arguing that they pose a threat to USA national security.

At a news conference, Trump recounted his recent tough exchanges with Trudeau, and said the Canadian leader must not have realized that Trump had televisions on Air Force One, allowing him to monitor Trudeau's news conference at the end of the G-7 summit.

Trump's decision not to sign the joint statement that came out of the G7 meeting was a response to Trudeau's press conference, according to White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow.

Trump is now feuding with Trudeau and other close allies of the United States over trade just one day after leaving the G7 Summit in Canada where he met with world leaders.

We won't hear anything from Kudlow for a while, unfortunately, as he suffered a heart attack yesterday and is recovering at Walter Reed. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Antoine Griezmann has made a decision on his future
The report states that a "very well-informed source" has told them that he has verbally agreed to join the Camp Nou club. However, those figures will return to the previous numbers next month. "The decision will be made at the right time".

In a radio interview several weeks ago, Trump administration trade adviser Peter Navarro said that keeping China from becoming a leader in high-tech industries was "exactly" what planned tariffs aimed to do. Bruce Heyman, a former USA ambassador to Canada, tweeted that Mr. Navarro should "formally and publicly apologize to Justin Trudeau and more importantly the Canadian people for his insulting and inappropriate remarks".

The Canadian leader would likely argue, however, that not only does he lead one of the US's closest allies, but also that he did no such thing in negotiations with Trump. "But you know, Trump threatened tariffs on steel and aluminum, and everybody said, 'Oh, well, you know he's not going to hit Canada, we're not a security threat.' And lo and behold, look what happened". No timeline has yet been attached to the auto investigation, but US law requires public hearings be held before any decisions are made.

Freeland said she had a "good conversation" Sunday with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, and that the pair would try to meet in Washington this week.

Earlier today, Trudeau cheered Trump's bid to broker a deal to rid the Korean Peninsula of nuclear weapons, but he stayed mum on the USA administration's persistent trash talk.

Trump, meanwhile, renewed his criticisms of Canada's protection of its dairy sector, saying: "It's very unfair to our farmers, and it's very unfair to the people of our country".

"I think the first-hand interaction is likely to be a stronger factor than anything the president says", he said. He learned. You can't do that.

Navarro "should have kept his big mouth shut because I don't think that helps us in foreign policy", said Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch of Utah.

"And I see the television and he's giving a news conference about how he will not be pushed around by the United States and I say push him around?".
