Trump responds to viral G-7 photo

Asked about Trump's threat to target United States tariffs against cars - a vital industry for Germany which supports over 800,000 jobs - "we will have to think again about what we'll do", Merkel said. At a press conference following the summit, Trudeau repeated his earlier description of USA trade tariffs as "insulting" and vowed retaliatory measures would come in July.

In return, Mr Trump made the French president his guest at his first White House state dinner, after which the U.S. president said of his visitor: "I like him a lot".

As the first of two days of meetings in La Malbaie, Quebec ended, the Group of Seven leaders limped toward something that could look like a win, even if it comes far short of the broad communique signed by all attendees that typically comes out of their summits.

Merkel and Trump also had a brief conversation at the summit.

French President Emmanuel Macron's Twitter account followed Merkel's post with this photo, showing Macron speaking to Trump and this message in French: "After a long day of work and very direct dialogue, we are actively seeking an ambitious agreement".

After leaving the summit Saturday, Trump announced that the US was pulling back its endorsement of the G7 communique in part because of what he called "false statements" at a news conference by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Merkel's comment was one of two nods to Trump during her hourlong ARD interview after her return from the G-7.

Anthony Bourdain’s Girlfriend, Asia Argento, Speaks Out About His Death
Bourdain said his youth was punctuated by drug use and he dropped out of Vassar College after two years. Argento worked on an episode of Bourdain's CNN show " Parts Unknown " during the show's eighth season.

"The withdrawal by tweet is, of course, sobering and a bit depressing", she said.

Merkel's March 2017 visit to the White House was marked by Trump either not hearing or ignoring her offer to shake hands in the Oval Office.

Mr Trump on Saturday threw the G-7's efforts to show a united front into disarray after he became angry with Mr Trudeau, and said he might double down on import tariffs by hitting the sensitive auto industry.

The official said disagreements remain, particularly with the USA on a number of issues, but the goal remains to reach agreement on all the big issues.

Russian Federation was expelled following Vladimir Putin's annexation of Crimea in 2014, which Mr Trump characterised as "something happened a while ago".

Emmanuel Macron has warned Donald Trump about "fits of anger" after the USA president refused to endorse a joint communique of G7 leaders.

Turning to Russia, Merkel said she could imagine Moscow re-joining the G7 format at some point, but there first had to be progress in the implementation of the peace plan for Ukraine.
