Socceroos gets crucial 1-1 draw with Denmark in Samara

Mile Jedinak's second penalty of the World Cup earned Australia a precious 1-1 draw against Denmark after a controversial VAR decision led to Christian Eriksen's superb opener being cancelled out in Samara.

Jedinak, who had scored a penalty in Australia's first match against France, stepped up to fire past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 38th minute.

Christian Eriksen wheels away after scoring Denmark's opener.

And once again it was skipper Mile Jedinak who came to his team's rescue, converting a penalty awarded by the VAR after some 36 minutes when Yussuf Poulsen was judged to have handled Matthew Leckie's header from Aaron Mooy's corner.

The Socceroos have a single point from their two games, meaning in the final set of fixtures they must now beat the already-eliminated Peru and hope Denmark lose to France, who only need a draw to top Group C.

Ahead of the match, Australia manager Bert van Marwijk suggested Denmark would have no qualms about playing direct.

Thursday's early game sees Denmark take on Australia at the Samara Arena in a Group C clash. Michael has covered the Socceroos through Asia, Europe and South America in their past three World Cup campaigns.

That's 90 percent of everything China exports to the US , from electronics, clothing, toys, tools, you name it. The administration says that China is trying to maintain a permanent and unfair advantage.

Nothing short of victory will do for Australia when it takes on Peru, and it can't afford to rely on decisions going its way as it did here.

"When you are at this level and create so many chances against Denmark I must be happy with the number of chances, the only thing we have to do is put the ball in the goal".

After their opening defeat by France, Van Marwijk resisted the temptation to draft in attacking reinforcements, leaving veteran forward Tim Cahill on the bench for the second match in a row.

Denmark nearly doubled their lead when Aaron Mooy lost the ball after 21 minutes, Mat Ryan parrying Pione Sisto's effort, before Rogic dragged well wide at the other end soon afterwards. Australia added some firepower in the 68th, bringing on 19-year-old Daniel Arzani as both teams scrambled for a winning goal.

"The conclusion is we have one point and we deserve four", the Dutchman said.

"We're still in with a sniff", said Jedinak after the game.
