Kellogg’s Recalls Honey Smacks Cereal Due To Possible Salmonella Link

The company began its investigation with the third-party manufacturer that produces Honey Smacks immediately after being contacted by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Kellogg's said. Most of the outbreaks occurred in California, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania, the CDC said.

The best by date of the affected products is "June 14, 2018 through June 14, 2019".

The recall involves 15.3-oz. and 23-oz. packages of the cereal, according to health officials.

Kellogg Company is voluntarily recalling one of their breakfast cereals over possible salmonella contamination.

The recalled cereal was distributed nationwide as well as in some areas of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, the Carribbean, Guam, Tahiti and Saipan. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Anyone with the recalled Honey Smacks should throw the cereal out and contact Kellogg for a full refund at 800-962-1413, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.to 6 p.m., Eastern time, and on weekends from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m., Eastern time. The illness usually lasts four to seven days.

Outbreak statisticsThe CDC reports that outbreak illnesses started on dates from March 3 to May 28.

Salmonella can cause serious illness or even death in rare cases.
