Aston Martin details Rapide AMR with 580 horsepower

Only 210 units of the Rapide AMR will be built, and prices start from £194,950.

The end is nearly in sight for the Aston Martin Rapide, but rather than fading away into history, the high-performance four-door is set to bow out with a bang in the shape of this special AMR edition. Also look for carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four in the rear. AMR stands for Aston Martin Racing and is meant to be a brand within the brand that draws on direct engineering and style from the Aston racing cars and road cars.

Andy Palmer, President and CEO, Aston Martin said, "AMR takes technology and inspiration from our motorsport programme to amplify the sporting prowess in our road cars which is clear to see in the Rapide AMR, Aston Martin's most extreme, 4-door sports auto".

The good, the bad, and the con of the Kim summit
When Trump said the last line, he pointed towards the White House, which could suggest that he was referring to his staff. President Trump shakes hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore.

President and chief executive Andy Palmer said: "AMR takes technology and inspiration from our motorsport programme to amplify the sporting prowess in our road cars which is clear to see in the Rapide AMR, Aston Martin's most extreme, four-door sports vehicle".

Borrowing an acronym from Aston Martin Racing, the exclusive Rapide boasts a few aesthetic tweaks that take inspiration from the Vantage AMR Pro and DB11 AMR. Meanwhile the circular daytime running lights recall the recent Zagato models. To achieve the extra grunt, Aston Martin has added larger inlet manifolds with tuned dual-inlet runners to increase airflow, along with a recalibrated engine gearbox tune. The sedan has the modified brake ducts and dust shields from the Vanquish S that help cooling, according to the company.

The Rapide AMR will be available in three different design schemes. Despite the extensive use of the lightweight material, Aston Martin states the official kerb weight at 1,990kg - identical to that of the Rapide S. The first two are offered with a choice of four colours Mariana Blue, Scintilla Silver, Lightning Silver and Onyx Black, with the Standard scheme adding AMR Lime accents to the splitter, sills and rear diffuser. Sterling Green is exclusive to the Signature model and gets Lime accents. Q by Aston Martin, the automaker's bespoke team, is on hand to make any more custom changes. A full-length carbon-fibre centre console and Alcantara-trimmed seats reinforce the car's sporty persona - both firsts for a Rapide. Optionally available for the full race auto experience are carbon paddle shifters, a One-77 steering wheel and, er, an umbrella.
