American Airlines cancels hundreds of flights due to technical issue

The technical difficulties were also being felt in OH, where more than a dozen outbound flights were canceled, along with at least five arriving flights.

Overall, the outage has affected about 4 percent of American's global flight operations, mostly shorter routes from the carrier's hub in Charlotte, according to news reports.

American Airlines sent a response to WBTV Thursday night when contacted for comment.

A technical issue has left thousands stranded as flights with the carrier PSA Airlines were cancelled overnight and into Friday.

PSA Airlines, the regional airline for American Airlines, has canceled all flights in and out of Charlotte, today. The total number of canceled flights is approximately 275 (about 120 in CLT). "Our customer relations team will be reaching out to all of those who have been impacted by this issue", American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement to NBC Charlotte.

Passengers traveling to and from the Charlotte airport were advised to check with their carriers.

The airline is encouraging all passengers to check their flight status on the American Airlines app, or, before heading to the airport. American Airlines flights set for Friday are continuing on as scheduled, officials said, CBS-affiliated WSPA reported.

PSA's website says the airline operates 35 Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft, 40 Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft and 54 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft. Our team, in coordination with PSA, is working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
