Nigeria names provisional 30-man World Cup squad

Rohr's 30-man provisional squad for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup finals was released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday.

The German had insisted that the players who played the qualifiers were top on his priority list, adding that the local league players had "a little chance" of making the squad to Russian Federation.

He had said, "The surprises can only come if some players are doing so well and we have to take them, it will be wonderful to see some surprises. In the first 35-man list, they have a chance".

The Midfielders include Mikel Obi (Captain), Joel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Mikel Agu, Etebo Oghenekaro, John Ogu, Uche Ago and Wilfred Ndidi.

The Green and White have never made it past the second round of a World Cup tournament but many pundits have tipped Mikel Obi's led side to reach the semi finals.

Carlo Ancelotti was in charge at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea set the previous record of 103 goals in 2009-10. Chelsea lost 0-3 to Newcastle United to finish fifth with 70 points - five behind Liverpool, reports Efe.

Rohr selected goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho of Deportivo La Coruna, Daniel Akpeyi and Dele Ajiboye, meaning no recall for veteran Vincent Enyeama.

Kano Pillars striker, Junior Lokosa and Crotone attacker, Simeon Nwankwo are the surprise inclusions as Malaga's Brown Ideye was dropped.

The Defenders are Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Brian Idowu, Elderson Echejile, Shehu Abdulahi, Ola Aina, Tyrone Ebuehi, Stephen Eze and Chidozie Awaziem.

With three friendly matches lined up ahead of the World Cup including a prestige encounter against England at the Wembley Stadium on June 2, members of the squad have reiterated their readiness for the challenge ahead.
