National Football League player's ex-girlfriend: Brutal allegations were 'lies' for 'money'

A tearful Ennis offered an apology to the court. Ennis said she took $8,000 in cash and two Rolex watches - all Foster's - with her when she flew home to Louisiana after Foster's arrest.

"She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would 'trash his career, '" Rickard said. Those accusations claimed that Foster dragged her down the stairs, punched her eight to 10 times, threw her outside of the house, and spit on her. 49ers GM John Lynch said the team would be patient through the legal process, but if the charges against Foster were proven true, he would be promptly released.

"It was all a money scheme". I didn't want to get this far in the news. "It was about money".

Foster's ex-girlfriend Elissa Ennis, 28, initially told Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police and Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies on the morning of February 11 that Foster had beat her, dragged her out of the house by her hair and thrown her down the steps of their home on Shannon Road. "I took all his jewelry and designer stuff", said Enis. She did just that earlier Thursday in chilling testimony in a Northern California courtroom during which she admitted to making the false claim that he attacked her as a way to "f-k up" his National Football League career.

When asked by prosecutor Kevin Smith if she still loves Foster, Ennis replied, "I don't love him, I need help for myself".

"I'm going to admit myself to a clinic as soon as I leave today", she said.

Called 911 3x because "I wanted to be extra".

In the statement from Ennis' attorney Stphanie Rickard that recanted her accusation, Rickard said the injuries Ennis suffered were from a fight Ennis had with another woman.

NPR presenter Sarah Koenig and her team spent the series revealing all the things about the case that didn't quite add up. Syed family friend Rabia Chaudry was a law student when she first tracked down McClain and successfully contacted her.

Ennis on Thursday recanted all of those allegations, though the Bay Area News Group report noted inconsistencies in her testimony. After another driver cut her off, Ennis said she returned the favor and then her and the driver of the other auto began motioning at each other before pulling to the side of the road.

From that point on, she fabricated just about every detail she told police.

Wiens said he had doubts about Ennis changing her story, and he did not follow up on her claim to have been injured in a fight with another woman.

San Francisco took Foster with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, but there were plenty of red flags surrounding him. She also complained about her left ear, which turned out to have a ruptured ear drum.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, center, heads into the courtroom for his arraignment at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, Calif. on April 12, 2018, where he answered to felony domestic violence and weapon charges. Foster pleaded not guilty last week.

Foster, wearing a dark blue suit and pink shirt, sat next to Bentley during the proceeding and mostly was silent and still.

In addition to Wiens and Ennis, the only other testimony delivered Thursday morning came from a man who was driving the auto that Ennis flagged down so she could call 9-1-1 on the morning of February 11.

The judge could dismiss any or all of the charges against Foster or have any or all of the charges advanced to a jury trial within 60 days.
