"Murphy Brown" reboot to tackle "fake news"

It will also come with an unexpected twist: instead of running a newsmagazine, as she did in the original series, Candice Bergen's title heroine will now anchor a morning news show-and her son, Avery, will be her top competitor-at a conservative network.

Programming SVP Thom Sherman offered up some details about the new Murphy Brown during a breakfast with press.

Despite the success that ABC has seen with its revival of "Roseanne", CBS isn't getting too far ahead of itself in predicting world-beating success for the return of "Murphy Brown". Aiding her in the ratings war will be long-time characters "Corky" (Faith Ford), "Frank" (Joe Regalbuto), and "Miles Silverberg" (Grant Shaud).

And 10 years after the show's finale aired, Murphy Brown will be back on TV screens. The gang still hangs out at Phil's Bar when the day is done, though the spot is now run by Phil's sister, Phyllis (Tyne Daly).

The new Murphy Brown is set to air on CBS Thursdays at 9:30 in the 2018-2019 fall schedule.

Executive-produced by Harry Styles, Happy Together has a pop star who very much resembles Harry Styles move in with an ordinary couple (Damon Wayans Jr. and Amber Stevens West) in order to escape the paparazzi.

An "outspoken atheist" (Brandon Micheal Hall, "The Mayor") when he gets a social media friend request from God.
