Man, 25, Outed After 'Living Double Life As A 17-Year-Old'

He was eventually caught after one of Gilstrap-Portley's former coaches remembered he saw him graduate from North Mesquite High School, so he alerted officials. He attended Dallas Christian College between 2013 and 2014, where he played guard on the school's Division II basketball team and eventually went undrafted in the 2017 NBA draft.

He was arrested and charged with felony tampering with government documents for filing false enrollment records.

The mother of the 14-year-old classmate Gilstrap-Portley allegedly dated told the Morning News her daughter said she did not have a sexual relationship with him.

According to Dallas detectives, Gilstrap-Portley was the high school's best basketball player. By the end of his first season, he was on scouting websites' radars as a freshman prospect and had been named District 11-5A offensive player of the year.

After nine months in the Dallas school system, one of Gilstrap-Portley's former coaches tipped off authorities.

During his time at Hillcrest, he also played on the Hillcrest High basketball team. "I never had any problems out of him". Superintendent Michael Hinojosa of the Dallas Independent School District noted that the hurricane proved to be the ideal subterfuge for the Texas man.

Police are also investigating whether he had a relationship with a 14-year-old-girl. "I don't know what, how [the school] let this slip through the cracks".

Gilstrap-Portley is accused of lying his way to enroll into Skyline High School. Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area in mid-August.

Gilstrap-Portley has since been released from jail after posting bond.

"He was a good kid", North Mesquite's coach, Phillip Randall, told the Dallas Morning News.
