Children freed after 'torture' by their parents

Jonathan Allen, 29, and Ina Rogers, 30, face charges including torture, abuse and neglect after the March 31 removal of their 10 children. It is unclear whether Rogers was immediately put in custody. Away from their parents, the children revealed a history of severe physical and emotional abuse, police said.

It follows news on Monday that authorities had removed the 10 children from their northern Californian home where they say torture was carried out "for sadistic purposes".

The bathroom is strewn with faeces at the four bedroom Californian home where authorities removed 10 children.

"It was obviously unsanitary and not a condition that children - or any human probably - should be living in at the time", Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut said Monday.

The allegations have been a part of prosecutors' try to have the kids's mom Ina Rogers' bail elevated after she was charged with 9 counts of felony youngster abuse on Wednesday.

The amended complaint against Rogers stated she committed acts that "aggravated" the crimes allegedly committed by her husband. "I am an incredible mother". Allen is being held in jail with bail set at $5.2 million.

But Rogers said the home was messy because she had been searching for her son who had run off after his computer was confiscated. The boy was eventually found sleeping under a bush in a neighbour's yard, police said.

On March 31, the Fairfield Police Department responded to a report of a missing juvenile in the 2200 block of Fieldstone Ct. Pictures obtained by ABC affiliate KGO show furniture, trash and toys scattered at every angle, as if a storm had torn through the home. "This case came in as a child endangerment, based upon the conditions of the house".

"I strive and I pride myself on being a good parent to my children", Rogers told CNN affiliate KGO/KTXL. She was released on bail in early April.

Ms Rogers was taken into custody after the hearing. She "may not be a danger to the public at large, but these charges make clear she is a danger to the children", he said.

The children had been home-schooled and were seen outside so rarely that some neighbours were shocked to learn more than a few lived at the house.

"On a continuous basis the children were getting punched, strangled, bitten, shot with weapons such as crossbows and bb guns, hit with weapons such as sticks and bats, subjected to "waterboarding" and having scalding water poured on them", Juarez wrote. Juarez wrote that Rogers dissuaded the children from reporting their injuries, which include broken arms, in order to protect Allen.

She denied torturing or abusing the children.

Har reported from San Francisco. Allen had reportedly threatened to kill her five children, which included two from a previous relationship, the Chronicle reported. "Absolutely not. Absolutely not", Rogers told KTXL. They included corporal injury, assault with a firearm, and criminal threats against his wife. He was released in January 2015, according to the Chronicle. The charges on Wednesday accompanied a new $495,000 bail.

She said she felt unfairly judged for her lifestyle.

Authorities had earlier described the abuse of the children as having a "sadistic objective", but they did not elaborate, the network reported.

"My kids get bumped and bruised and scratched because they're kids, but that's it".
