Boat Carrying 40 People Capsizes in Godavari, 23 Feared Missing

The state disaster management teams and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were pressed into service.

A boat carrying around 40 people on Tuesday capsized in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh.

Proper record-keeping is rare on the many ferries that work the Godavari, making it hard to know how many people were on the boat.

At least 20 persons swam ashore.

As well as their landmark points haul, formidable City also finished the campaign with a record 106 goals scored and 32 victories. Carlo Ancelotti was in charge at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea set the previous record of 103 goals in 2009-10.

According to East Godavari Collector Karthikeya Mishra, who was rushing to the spot, the boat was coming from Kondamodalu (East) and proceeding to Polavaram (West).

Boat operator Khaja surrendered before police in Devipatnam. "When the boat is nearly 10 minutes away to the banks, heavy rain and wind occurred, the boat lost balance and slid one side". The passengers had a narrow escape as the driver wheeled the boat to the shore and they jumped off before the entire boat was completely gutted.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his anguish over the incident on Twitter. "I pray for the safety of those missing", he tweeted.

Chandrababu Naidu also took to the micro-blogging site and said the incident is "highly painful" and officials have been asked to take up the rescue operations on a war footing.
