Snapchat introduces iPhone X-exclusive Lenses with TrueDepth-Enhanced AR

When Apple launched its latest iPhone X flagship smartphone past year, it also announced new Snapchat AR Lenses which will be exclusive to the device. In partnership with Snap Inc., Apple demonstrated the power of new front-facing camera by utilizing AR Snapchat Lenses designed especially for the handset. It's unclear if new filters will be added, and how long the existing ones will be available. It's curious though what took Snapchat seven months to release these since they were first announced and why we still have just three.

It's worth remembering that, though the TrueDepth camera is used in both this case and for Face ID, there are different layers of security at work.

But Apple's iPhone X camera can sense depth by mapping a 3D image of your face. The depth information lets Snapchat to more precisely pin virtual objects over a subject's face.

Unlike traditional Lenses that rely on information from a phone's 2D camera to recognize dominant facial features, like a user's eyebrows and mouth, iPhone X Lenses tap into data produced by TrueDepth.

There are three AR lenses in total, which are the ones you see above. With this feature, the camera can detect even the tiny movements on your face.

US suspects cellphone spying devices in Washington
The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that it has detected evidence of mobile snooping devices around Washington, DC. The letter also stated that the "use of IMSI catchers by foreign governments may threaten US national and economic security".

As per Snapchat's officials, they have tested the TrueDepth Camera on their lenses which would offer more accurate and detailed experience with fun way.

It will also artfully blur the background using a technique called bokeh, which is familiar from the iPhone's Portait Mode. And, the mathematical representation of that data (used for unlocking the iPhone X through Face ID) is kept out of developers' reach. This aids Snapchat Lenses to highlight the photographer and the mask with better clarity.

According to Apple's developer agreement, third-party app developers can only access visual facial mapping data.

Snapchat regularly switches out its selection of face filters, depending on current events or season.
