Ohtani's 3-run triple sends Angels to 7-1 win over Royals

HIs first week in the city of Angels will be a memorable one, not only for Ohtani but for any general baseball fan. A game-changing player the Rangers coveted for years, Ohtani threw 61/2 flawless innings against Oakland on Sunday, so the Rangers won't see what he looks like from the pitcher's mound until next time.

Following his Sunday start, he was given a rest on Monday. "He really wanted that bat, so I gave it to him".

Now, in fairness, Ohtani is probably not facing the stiffest of competition for that record.

Trout hit his AL-leading sixth homer, a two-run drive in the fifth off Jakob Junis (2-1). With AP Photos.Shohei Ohtani's games are shown live in the morning by national broadcaster NHK. Even Mike Trout, Ohtani's superstar teammate and two-time MVP center fielder, typically gets left alone after, say, a 1-for-4 night in a losing effort.

Williams (3-0) was a bit better than Kyle Hendricks (0-1) in what began as a pitchers' duel following Chicago's 13-5 rout of Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. The three runs all came from a three-run homer in the second inning, so it looks like Ohtani settled in nicely after that.

The Royals' (3-8) lone run came on a Lucas Duda RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.

Man City eye record books after clinching title
Pep Guardiola's side have scored 93 goals in 33 games so far this season, putting them 16 points clear of United at the top. Vincent Kompany says it's too early to say whether they are the best EPL team ever.

Ohtani was inserted in the DH spot batting 8th again on Wednesday with a matchup against the 2017 AL Cy Young victor in Corey Kluber. Maybe he will eventually need to choose one discipline to focus on; maybe an injury on the base paths will scare the Angels into playing him at just pitcher; maybe he will hurt his arm and become a permanent fixture at DH; or maybe, just maybe, he is the second coming of a young Babe Ruth.

Richards pitched to 1 batter in the 6th.

Now what can be taken away from this at-bat is, not only can Ohtani rake, but he is also capable of adjustment. Japanese media are encouraged to stay out of the clubhouse, which is typically open to the media several hours before first pitch, unless they have specific questions for Ohtani's teammates - an edict that provoked few protests from Japanese reporters, because clubhouses in Japan are uniformly closed to the media. He gave up 12 home runs over those 21 innings of play. At the end of the day, Shohei Ohtani has now homered in back to back games.

The next two days the Angels will get Nick Tropeano and Andrew Heaney back.

Hammel is 2-3 with a 5.30 ERA in seven career outings versus the Angels.

As a unit, Kansas City's pitchers have allowed 4.5 runs per game overall this year.
