MI vs DD: Who won today's IPL match and why

Jason Roy smashed an unbeaten 91 as Delhi Daredevils defeated hosts Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in a last-ball thriller in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Mumbai yesterday.

The Delhi bowling was as generous as the fielding in the powerplay and openers Suryakumar and Lewis made hay, with the latter - out for a duck on his debut just a week earlier - hitting four boundaries in a scintillating sixth over.

Rishabh Pant scored 47 runs with his willow.

Delhi Daredevils dropped Black Cap Colin Munro for the game against Mumbai Indians, and Englishman Jason Roy - his replacement as opener - produced a match-winning innings to get Delhi home in the final over.

With a star studded bowling line up including T20 stars Mustafizur Rahman and Jasprit Bumrah and a 194-run total to defend, odds were heavily stacked in favour of Mumbai. Yadav blitzed his way to 53 off 32, and Evin Lewis came good with 48 off 28 at the other end. "We know it has been done in the past as well, a few games don't take away anything". However, irrespective of the contrast in statistics between the two the teams as compared to the last season, MI and DD both have had a torrid start in the 11th season of IPL as they have lost their first two games. "We can learn many things from this match, especially in the batting department", he said after the match. So we wanted to force him to do a mistake and I did that in the Big Bash as well.

Suryakumar admitted it was "a little disappointing" to have lost all their three matches Mumbai have played so far, but he was confident of the team making a comeback.

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and opted to field at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. We thought they were going to get 230.

Thunder statement on play-by-play voice Brian Davis' in-game comments
That's for the front office and him to discuss. "Brian assures me that it was not meant in any derogatory way, and he apologizes. He will be replaced by radio play-by-play voice Matt Pinto , rejoining the broadcast crew for Game 2.

"Nice to win three in a row", Williamson said.

Ishan Kishan was also at his belligerent best as he scored 44 runs off 23 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes.

DD Squad: Gambhir, Roy, Iyer, Pant, Maxwell, Shankar, Christian, Tewatia, Nadeem, Shami, Boult.

Williamson's innings was laced with 4 fours and one six while Shakib hit 2 fours and a six during his knock as the duo shared 59-run stand for the fourth wicket to guide their team.

The Mumbai players will be keen to put an inspired display for their 21,000 young fans (kids from municipal schools), who will be cheering for them as part of Reliance Foundation's Education and Sports for All initiative. "We believed that we could even after taking it to the last over", Iyer said.

He also praised the Sunrisers bowlers for restricting the MI under 150 on a good batting track.
