Inter Milan 'monitoring Gareth Bale situation'

Manchester United have reportedly dropped their interest in Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale, and Inter Milan are said to be set to make a move for the Wales worldwide.

Bale has endured a hard season at the Bernabeu with injuries and a loss of form culminating in his ignominious half time withdrawal against Juventus in midweek. Isco, Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio are all in the ascendancy with him at the moment but all were out of the coach's plans earlier in the season.

Despite that, the Red Devils - and their various managers - have maintained their interest in signing the Welshman, with even Jose Mourinho publicly declaring his desire to sign him last summer.

The January signing of Alexis Sanchez now means United's need for a wide forward is not as pressing as it was, despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of Juventus target Anthony Martial who has reportedly rejected a new contract offer.

Gareth Bale is still insistent Real Madrid remains the best place for him to be despite being upset at being taken off at half time during their Champions League quarterfinal clash with Juventus. Inter Milan are the only club showing a firm interest in the 28-year-old. He told Dermot Corrigan at ESPN FC: "Gareth is a Real Madrid player and loves Real Madrid, and Real Madrid love Gareth".

However, after being hauled off at half-time during Wednesday night's crucial Champions League quarter-final at half-time, his career in Spain seems to have hit a new low.
