Chelsea's Alonso banned for three games

The left-wing back collided with Southampton's Shane Long during Chelsea's 3-2 win over the Saints on Saturday but managed to avoid being booked by the referee during the match, but after the match reports revealed that FA will ban the Spanish global.

The 27-year-old Spanish defender was charged by the Football Association (FA) after a challenge on Shane Long in Saturday's 3-2 win against the Saints.

Off-the-ball incidents not seen at the time are referred by the FA to a panel of three former elite match officials.

Chelsea defender Marcus Alonso has been handed a three-game ban by the English FA and will miss Sunday's FA Cup clash against Southampton at Wembley Stadium.

After the match, Southampton manager Mark Hughes said: "Shane's got a gash down the calf - having seen it again there's a clear red card".

British TV Personality Dale Winton Dies at 62
Lorraine Kelly was so stunned when she heard the news of Dale Winton's death that she thought it was a hoax. Celebrity chef James Martin also made sure to remember the entertainer.

Alonso had denied the charge but an independent commission hearing on Wednesday rejected his stance.

Emerson Palmieri, who has made just three appearances since signing from Roma for an initial €20million fee in January, is expected to replace Alonso.

Chelsea is fifth in the league, chasing Tottenham for the final Champions League qualification place.

The Burnley and Southampton games are particularly important for Chelsea and head coach Antonio Conte, as they try to salvage what has been a disappointing season.
