Xbox One S and X Gaining AMD Radeon FreeSync Support

Some of the highlights from the Inside Xbox episode featured the latest updates coming to Xbox One now and later this Spring.

Microsoft is adding support for AMD's FreeSync displays to its Xbox One X and Xbox One S consoles soon.

FreeSync is similar to NVIDIA's G-Sync technology, in that it helps reduce or eliminate screen tearing, stuttering, and artifacting that is often observed even on the highest end systems. Of course the display, whether it is a monitor or television, will need to support FreeSync for the variable refresh rate technology to work, when the update with it comes out.

Nasa rift widens as Raila 'snubs' meet
The meeting comes amid concerns of a fallout in the coalition, with political pundits saying the move by Mr. Odinga would join the meeting whose main agenda was set to be the pact with President Kenyatta.

G-Sync and FreeSync are likely successors of a video rendering technique called Vsync or "virtual synchronization". Announced previous year, AMD's FreeSync 2 extends AMD's FreeSync abilities, chiefly by specifying low-latency HDR support on top of variable refresh. We're not aware of any FreeSync-branded TVs, but we'd wager that the HDMI 2.1 VRR spec is a real close relative of the FreeSync-on-HDMI support already available on some monitors. Microsoft demonstrated this during its Inside Xbox Stream yesterday. The results are smoother in-game visuals where frame-rates look smoother and more natural.

Given that Xbox uses the AMD APU, it makes sense that Microsoft would allow it to support FreeSync and this would be the first time a console to support such a feature.

Meanwhile the fact that the Xbox One S is included in all of this was a small surprise in and of itself. The Xbox Spring Update is bringing support for native 1440p, and support for Auto Low Latency Mode (i.e. TV "Game Modes") - a feature that disables TV post-processing during gameplay - is set to come later in 2018.
