Wounded soldier shoots dead knife attacker outside Iranian ambassador's residence in Vienna

A knife attacker was shot dead outside the Iranian ambassador's house in Vienna after he lunged at a guard, police said. After the attacker - a 26-year-old Austrian - stabbed him, he fired several shots.

On Sunday night around 11:30 pm, a suspect was first spotted by the 23-year-old soldier who was serving as a guard in front of Iranian ambassador's residence, according to a police statement.

Austrian assailant's motive for the attack is unclear, as police reviews security footage.

"The attacker stabbed the soldier repeatedly".

"He initially used pepper spray" against the assailant, Soeros said, before opening fire.

Intel reportedly eyeing Broadcom to thwart Qualcomm buyout
The result of the attention was a delay to a Qualcomm stockholder meeting where Broadcom hoped the deal would be approved. Broadcom's CEO, Hock Tan, is a US citizen, and the company said that it is "in all important respects a USA company".

The soldier has cuts on his right hand, but the protective vest has prevented more serious injuries.

The official added that the soldier, who is from the Tyrol region of Austria, had been treated in hospital.

The motive for the attack was not immediately known.

Although the matter is still being investigated, Austria's Ministry of Defence said at the moment it seems the guard did follow the rules in his actions, the APA agency reported.

Police ordered reinforcements around all diplomatic missions in the Austrian capital, which is also home to many worldwide organisations.
