Umtiti being tempted by Manchester United move

Samuel Umtiti has been a mainstay of the Barcelona defence as the club strides towards regaining the La Liga defender.

Sport (h/t Metro) reported United are willing to meet Umtiti's €60 million (£53.4 million) buyout clause, and Mourinho is personally campaigning to convince the defender to move to Old Trafford.

And, the club are prepared to offer what Sport state as a "stratospheric" salary offer, with the Red Devils putting together a €9m-a-year package, more than double his €4m-a-year wage at Barca.

Umtiti has developed in to one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in European football since joining Barca from Lyon in 2016 but he's yet to sign a new contract at the Nou Camp.

His form has sparked interest from across the continent - so too the £50m release clause on his current deal at the Spanish league leaders.

Harischandra Arya also confirmed that an investigation had been ordered into the matter. This is not the first incident such an incident has taken place.

Sport say that the right-hand man of United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was in attendance at the Nou Camp to watch Umtiti in action during Barcelona's 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

It's claimed Manchester United already tried to recruit Umtiti during the winter transfer market, and have continued their approaches since.

The report also claims that Mourinho calls Umtiti on a regular basis to talk up a potential move to Old Trafford and is also using Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, the defender's France teammates, to sell the club.

Ernesto Valverde is reportedly keen to offer Umtiti a new contract to stave off Premier League interest, but it remains to be seen if he will sign.
