Ski Lift Crashes in Gudauri Resort — Georgia

Almost one dozen people were injured, but they are all expected to be okay.

Despite yesterday's ski-lift accident, Gudauri continues to offer visitors various attractions, including a youth skiing tournament for the national cup of Georgia organised by the Georgian Ski Federation. For many, the videos of the accident are hard to watch.

"Numerous injuries to people who fell under the "meat grinder" from the collapsing chairs, fractures and bruises to those who had time or thought to jump off", reads his post, roughly-translated to English.

While eight people suffered minor injuries, two were seriously hurt. Further updates on her condition has not been made available.

The ski lifts, which were installed at the resort in 2007, were reportedly created to have an emergency brake and backup power generator. A couple of people spoke with the media after the accident.

A video shot from another angle shows panicked skiers dropping equipment and jumping off the lift before it reaches the bottom. Those queuing for the ski lift rushed to offer the victims first aid.

At least one skier appeared to be trapped on the ground near the chairs' lowest point, where a pile of deformed metal chairs would later accumulate as they slammed into one that had fallen off the cable.

12 People have been left injured after a chairlift malfunction at the Georgian Ski Resort Gudauri caused carnage last week. "The interior ministry has launched a criminal probe into alleged violation of safety norms", he added.
