Russia Says it Test-Fired a Hypersonic Missile

"The launch was normal; the hypersonic missile hit the preset target on the test site", the ministry added.

A Russian jet successfully test-lauched a hypersonic missile Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The MiG-31 departed from an airfield in the Southern Military District within the framework of a testing air alert.

According to the BBC, the country's defense ministry released a video showing the Kinzhal missile as it detached from a fighter jet.

The test came days after President Vladimir Putin showcased Russia's new strategic weapons, including nuclear-powered submarine drones, massive intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) with hyper-sonic warheads, cruise missiles and a ground-based laser weapon that had already entered service.

Conte explains what it will take to beat Barcelona
My stupid answer was, 'We are winning, but I'm not happy because I'm not enjoying the role the coach made a decision to give me'. I think that on Sunday he was well but, at the same time, it was right not to take a risk.

The Kinzhal - a double-edged Russian dagger - was described as "an ideal weapon" by Putin during the missile's unveiling on March 1.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Facebook that work had also been done to modernize the "unique" MiG-31 supersonic jet that will carry the missile.

According to the ministry, the tactical and technical characteristics and timing indicators of the Kinzhal high-precision airborne missile system were confirmed during the launch.

Mr Putin is widely expected to be re-elected as Russia's president in a week's time. "They do not impact any need on our side for a change in our deterrence posture".

Putin in his address said Russian Federation is developing missiles and underwater drones, among other weapons, because the US pulled out of the 1972 anti-ballistic missile treaty it had signed with the Soviet Union.

Putin has rattled Russian sabers repeatedly in the past, and military analysts said a lack of detailed information made it hard to assess his statements about weapons.
